Susan Marie Aimalefoa's Obituary
Susan Marie Aimalefoa
January 27, 1961 – March 21, 2025
Susan Marie Aimalefoa, 64, of San Diego, passed peacefully on March 21, 2025 embraced by the love of family and friends from coast to coast.
Sue was Jersey Strong—a force of nature whose energy was impossible to ignore. You always knew when she was in the room—her exuberant voice, infectious laughter, and “take no prisoners” attitude made sure of that. She had a way of bringing people together, leaving an indelible mark on family, friends, and coworkers alike. To know Sue was to be loved by her.
She answered to many names—Mom, Sue, Susie, Mama Sue, Grammy, Auntie Sue, Aunt Susie—and in every role, she was deeply cherished. Auntie Susie held a special place in the hearts of her many nieces and nephews, and their children, who adored her as much as she adored them.
Born on January 27, 1961, to loving parents Erwin and Gladys Wirth, Sue grew up in Freehold, New Jersey, where her adventurous spirit was already evident. She later moved to San Diego on a grand adventure, where she met her loving husband, Matt, and together they built a beautiful life, raising their two daughters, Brittany and Kourtney.
Sue lived for her children. Through life’s triumphs and challenges, Sue was always there, lifting them up with unwavering love, support and encouragement. She lovingly guided her daughters as they blossomed into strong, compassionate young ladies.
Professionally, Sue was a dedicated and hardworking woman. She spent many years as a supervisor for McDonald’s, where she was affectionately known as Mama Sue. She had a unique ability to inspire and motivate, bringing out the best in those around her while making work fun. More recently, she found her true calling working with disabled and special needs adults at The Home of Guiding Hands. This was her soul work—a job she poured her heart into. The joy she found in seeing her clients thrive was immeasurable, and they, along with her coworkers, adored her. She will be sorely missed.
Sue fought three battles with cancer with relentless strength, courage, and grace. Even in the face of adversity, she lived fully—witnessing her eldest daughter marry the love of her life, welcoming three beautiful grandchildren into the world, see her youngest daughter grow into a strong young woman and doting auntie all while creating countless cherished memories with those she loved along the way.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gladys and Erwin Wirth. She is survived by her devoted husband, Matt; her beloved daughters, Brittany (David) and Kourtney; and her adored grandchildren, Leilani, Finn and Ivy. She also leaves behind her brother, Stephen (Lynn); her sisters, Patricia (Dean) and Barbara (Jerry); and a large, loving extended family. Among them, she shared an especially deep bond with Caitlin, Ryan, Kenny, Maiava, and Radley, who were like children to her and will miss her greatly.
Sue’s legacy is one of love, joy, resilience, and boundless generosity. She gave her whole heart to those she loved, and in return, she was treasured beyond measure. Though she is no longer physically with us, her spirit will forever shine in the laughter of her grandchildren, the strength of her daughters, and the hearts of all who were lucky enough to be part of her world.
She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 2 at 1:00 PM at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in memory of Sue.
