Thomas Vito DeMarino's Obituary
Thomas (Tom) Vito DeMarino, a 96 year native of San Diego, passed away on April 1, 2020. He was born on November 2, 1923. His parents, immigrants from Italy and Samoa, were Nicolino DeMarino and Jane Bahn Banker. Tom served his country in the U. S. Navy, starting out as a seaman in the Second World War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He took a commission in 1956 and retired after 31 years as a Commander. He is preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life Lory DeMarino to whom he was married for 72 years. He was a strong member of various churches during his travels as a naval officer and a regular member and supporter of the Mission Church of the Nazarene during his retirement. He attained a degree, real estate license, and did tax preparation and commercial real estate in his early years of retirement. He visited assisted living homes and nursing facilities weekly to bring joy to those less blessed with good health or family close by. Tom was passionate about golf and was still going to the driving range into his 90’s. He was also a faithful Padre fan since 1971. He never missed a game that was on TV and would read about his team every morning in the newspaper. He was a man of God, a proud veteran (put his flag up every day) and a true gentleman. He is survived by his daughter Jan Hardesty and his two sons Tom DeMarino (Rebecca) and Mike DeMarino (Donna) his grandchildren Stephen DeMarino (Michelle), Sasha DeMarino and Brandon Hardesty, his great grandchildren Sarah, Vito, Vincent and Bodhi and his younger brother Bob (Elinor). He will be truly missed by his family, friends, neighbors and all who knew him.
