Yvonne Annette Piscopo's Obituary
Yvonne Annette Evjen, known to her family & friends as “Vonnie”, was born on May 29th, 1954 to Gordon & Mildred Evjen in Portland, Oregon. Vonnie is the second of four children with older sister Pamela and younger siblings Gregory and Vanessa. When she was just six years old, the family moved to San Diego where she attended Central Elementary School until the family moved to the community of San Carlos. She continued her school days at Gage Elementary, Pershing Middle School, Patrick Henry High School and later transferred to Crawford High School to be with her future husband Phil Piscopo. Phil was introduced to Vonnie at a pool party on Hughes Street near Crawford High School when she was just 14 years old. That eventful moment started a youthful love affair that continued into their adult years when they were married on March 1st, 1975 and became Phillip and Yvonne Piscopo. Together they started a home as Phil developed his landscaping business and Vonnie managed the home, assisted with the business accounting, and worked at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in the x-ray file department, a job that she held for 23 years. In 1983, their son, Frank, was born and named after Phil’s father whom they both admired greatly. When Frankie was a toddler, his little sister Yvette, named after her mother, was born in 1987. In her limited leisure time, Vonnie enjoyed classic and western movies, embroidery, and developed a love for cooking Italian food, a skill she learned from her mother-in-law, Rose Piscopo. Together, the Piscopo family enjoyed many road trips locally and around the country. There were also more distant trips to Hawaii and Alaska. More recently, Phil surprised Vonnie with the purchase of a house under construction in Yuma, Arizona. Vonnie immediately wanted to pick out decoration colors. They enjoyed many trips to “The Little House” in Yuma in the cooler weather with the “girls” (dogs), Mia & Stella. Phil’s and Vonnie’s ruby (40th ) wedding anniversary was this year on March 1st. After a stoic battle with cancer, Yvonne Annette Piscopo went home to her Lord Jesus and will be greatly missed by her husband, her children, her extended family, and her many friends.
